11. Yellow Grosbeak Part 2
These photographs were taken in the Kay Bratton residence backyard at 1412 Las Lomas Road NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, on Saturday, 25 March 2006, starting at 11:10 AM, and over next 30 minutes at most. These photos were taken from much closer to the bird than the ones I took on Pueblo Solano back in late January of this year. [Look further below in this blog for those pictures and writeup.] Kay Bratton said I got closer to the Yellow Grosbeak than anybody else. Still I eventually managed to finally spook the bird when trying to get even closer by a few more feet. My closeness may contribute to the argument that it is an escaped pet bird. But Kay Bratton thinks that it is a wild bird, because it is a young adult bird now, and was unattractive as a pet in its juvenile youth because it was then a very plain looking brown colored bird. Once she put her cat back in the house, the Yellow Grosbeak soon came down off of its tree perch above the feeder, and joined the other birds at the feeder. She said the YGB won't eat at the feeder unless there are multiple other birds already using the feeder. These other birds that I saw were mostly House Sparrow, House Finch, Morning Dove, and Lesser? Goldfinch?. When you go there to see the Yellow Grosbeak, be sure to completely close the gate and to sign the guest book. The book is fascinating to browse through with its entries from all over the USA, as well as Canada, Ireland, and Germany, so far. Went back on Sunday, 26 March 2006, and saw it briefly from about 10:35-10:45 AM in thick leaves and vines in the tree just South of her property wall. I took no photographs. Someone said that Ken Kaufman had signed the guest book, but couldn't find him when I looked through it from beginning to end. The book was started on Tuesday, 21 February 2006.
